Time : Space Collection
To commemorate The Macallan’s significant milestone of turning 200 Years Young, we embark on a journey where time ebbs and flows and nature protects what is fragile and precious, with spikes surrounding what is beautiful and fragile.
Through two limited single malt whisky expressions, we have created a new red spiky world; a visual language where time travel and nature connect and protecting spikes are the heroes.
TIME TRAVEL
At The Macallan, we believe whisky making is like time travel: what we bottle today was created many years in the past, and the spirit we lay down in casks now is destined for many years in the future. Through time travelling, we learn from the past and look to the future.

“It was an absolute privilege to be able to reach back in time and select stock from 1940 to honour and celebrate our 200 Year Anniversary. As a Whisky Mastery Team, our roles are unique in the sense that we get to time travel – selecting whisky from the past crafted by our predecessors, whilst simultaneously laying down casks for future generations of whisky makers and consumers.

THE CHARACTERS
The characters featured throughout the films take us on a captivating journey where we encounter a myriad of fascinating flora and fauna, each intricately linked to The Macallan. From majestic animals to vibrant plants and elemental wonders, each selection is purposefully chosen to vividly depict the whisky-making process and underscore The Macallan's profound connection with nature.
Barley
Glorious fields of spiky red barley stretch out before us in the early scenes of the TIME : SPACE Mastery. When chopped by the sickle, the energy turns these already spiky elements even more so.
Peacock
A bird synonymous with The Macallan representing natural colour. Our version remains as beautiful but eschews the traditional blue and green plumage for a re-imagining of the whisky rainbow.
Grapes
Grapes From the vineyards of Jerez with their distinctive white Albariza soil, these grapes will one day make the sherry wine used to season The Macallan casks. This is a fundamental part of our whisky making process, as the sherry seasoning attributes up to 80% of flavour and 100% natural colour.
Cask
Acorns are the origin of every mighty oak tree that becomes a whisky cask. Our world envisions a spiky version from which a cask directly emerges, the spikes protecting the precious whisky within.
Rose
Synonymous with beauty and fragility, roses are used in vineyards as a system alarm. If a disease strikes it will be the rose that shows symptoms first allowing treatment before the precious grape vines are affected. The roses in our film use their spiky stems that move like tentacles to protect the vines and become more fierce as we approach.
ECHOES OF TIME
In a harmonious reunion, we have partnered once more with acclaimed Scottish composer Craig Armstrong to orchestrate TIME : SPACE.
As he crafts the score for the soundtrack, Armstrong is inspired by the captivating animation and its poignant narrative weaving The Macallan's history into the fabric of the land.
Reflecting on his creative journey, Armstrong unveils how the awe-inspiring landscape and the omnipresent force of nature enveloping whisky production profoundly influenced his composition, infusing each melody with the essence of the land's rich heritage and The Macallan's timeless spirit.
